How to stop over-trading: 6 practical steps

Over-trading means taking more trades, or bigger trades, than your plan allows. It usually starts after a loss or a big win. The steps below turn good intentions into rules you cannot easily break.

Warning signs you are over-trading

  • You trade to win back a loss quickly
  • Your trade size keeps growing during the session
  • You keep trading after your accuracy has clearly dropped
  • You feel bored, angry or excited when you place trades
  • You break your own limit "just this once"

Six steps that work

  • Write down your daily loss limit and profit target before you start.
  • Fix your trade size as a % of your balance and cap recovery trades.
  • Set a minimum accuracy. If your win rate falls below it after enough trades, take it as a warning.
  • Stop for the day when you hit either the loss limit or the profit target.
  • Use a cooling-off period after a stop. A break of a few hours is enough to reset your head.
  • Review your session honestly, then plan the next one.

How RiskQuo builds this in

RiskQuo tracks your accuracy during the session. If it stays below your chosen floor after enough trades, you get a warning, then a last warning, and then the session closes with a cooling-off lock, even if you are still in profit. The rules are yours: you choose the limits and lock them.

Frequently asked questions

What causes over-trading?

Usually emotion: the wish to recover a loss, the excitement after wins or boredom. Fixed rules decided in advance take emotion out of the decision.
